The mechanism of color sence generation

 

The main reason for color production is that the visible light in the solar radiation shines on the surface of the object, and the reflected light enters the visual cells of the person to produce color vision. The visual cells of the person can distinguish seven colors including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. But base color only red, green, blue 3 kinds, call 3 primary color.

When the object has more absorption of red, green and blue, the surface of the object appears black. When the object has strong reflection to red, green and blue, the object appears white. Objects appear blue when they reflect only blue light and absorb red and green. Conversely, if the object reflects red and green light and absorbs blue light strongly, the object presents a mixture of red and green light -- yellow.If the object reflects blue and green light and absorbs red light strongly, the object will appear a mixture of blue and green light -- cyan. Similarly, if the object reflects blue and red light and absorbs green light strongly, the object presents a mixture of blue and red light - purple; This is the nature of color complementarity: yellow and blue complement each other, red and cyan complement each other, and green and purple complement each other.

For opaque substrates, since the transmitted wave is zero, the color of the object is mainly reflected by reflection and absorption. As for the transparent substrate, there are three phenomena acting together. The color of the object is mainly reflected in the color produced by visible light through reflection, absorption and transmission. As shown in the figure below, when a beam of white light shines on a transparent red substrate, the red monochromatic light in visible light will be reflected and transmitted, while other colors of visible light will be absorbed.
