PVD Color Coating -- Rose Gold

Rose gold, her romantic name can cause countless wonderful associations. After glittering gold jewelry and elegant platinum jewelry, the soft and delicate rose gold jewelry gradually become the “new favotite” of fashion icons. Usually rose gold is composed of 75% gold and other alloys (commonly known as tricolor gold).


The hardness of rose gold is higher than that of pure gold. Compared with traditional gold and platinum, the pink rose gold can not only make the colors of the colored stones more intense, but also reflect the exquisite of metal materials. Its pink, rose and other warm colors bring warmth and happiness to people. It is also varied in style, such as heart-shaped, marquise-shaped, oval, pear-shaped, emerald-shaped and so on. Various styles of jewelry are dazzling very much.



Rose gold color is very popular in the watch industry in recent years. Many brands use PVD technology to deposit rose gold coatings on the stainless steel case and strap. It is called IP rose gold in industry and its technology is very mature. The rose gold coating generally consists of a gold imitation layer and a rose gold layer. The underlying imitation gold layer is generally TiCN, which mainly help increase the hardness and wear resistance of the rose gold.



The rose gold layer on the top of surface is formed by sputtering rose gold target. There are some differences in the color of the different rose gold target formulations, which are roughly divided into the following types:


1. Crown gold, the gold content is 22K (91.667%), this proportion of gold is used by the British Henry VIII (1526) for the first time to the gold coin casting.


2. 18K rose gold, the most common and most typical rose gold, the gold content is 18K (75%), but it contains about 4% of silver and 21% of copper, to show a beautiful pale pink rose color.


3. 14K red gold, the gold content is 14K (58.33%), and other added metal is copper (41.67%).


The rose gold targets of some PVD coating factories also contain some rare elements to achieve different colors or to change the performance of the coating. This is one of the reasons that there are some differences in the plating color of each PVD factory on the market.
