PVD coating and water electroplating both belong to surface treatment, the principle are covering one material on the surface of another material in a certain way to obtain one or more layers with certain functions (wear resistance, corrosion resistance, heat resistance, electrical conductivity, etc.).
Water electroplating is widely used due to its relatively simple process, and its requirements for equipment and environment is much lower than PVD. However, the general plating material for water electroplating is "hexavalent chromium" which is a non-environmental material, and it causes serious environmental pollution. The materials for PVD coating is extensive and easy to use, these materials also meet environmental requirements. In the vacuum state, the coating material that needs to be coated on the surface of the product is ionized by plasma and then deposited on the surface of the workpiece. Therefore, the PVD coating has the advantages of great bonding strength, high hardness, good abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance, the performance of the coating is more stable with no toxic or contaminating substances and gases. Also, there is no adverse impact on the environment, which is in line with the development direction of modern green manufacturing.
