Apple's new patent has been revealed, and the new iPhone may use textured glass on the back
The us patent and trademark office today officially announced 51 new patents granted to apple. In this article we'll show you one of them, apple's method of providing speckles or global textures on the back of the iPhone. The texture not only allows users to hold the iPhone better, but also provides a "decorative layer" on the glass to help improve the look of the rear shell.
As the owner of iPhone XR, the glossy glass on the back makes it easy to drop without using the case. And providing textured glass will be good for future iPhone.
Apple's patent (patent no. 10292286) states, "an area of the rear shell wall may be a matte appearance formed by a textured surface. The textured surface can be formed directly on the glass layer, or it can be formed on the thin glass layer and polymer film, coupled to the glass layer.
Patent figure 1 is an iPhone perspective; Figure 6 is a cross-sectional side view of an illustrative glass layer with an embedded texture area.
Apple filed a patent application for the invention in January 2019. The patent granted to apple was originally filed in the first quarter of 2017 and was released today by the us patent and trademark office
