Working Principle Of O-Rings

O-rings are the most used sealing form in fluid power systems. O-rings are widely used in hydraulic and pneumatic components due to their simple structure, good sealing performance, low friction, small groove size and easy manufacturing.

 

Working principle of O-ring: The O-ring is installed in the sealing groove, deformed by the pressure of oil (or gas), squeezed to one side of the groove, and sealed the sealing contact surface, so that the flow (or air flow) cannot pass, as shown in Fig.1. This seal works well in fluid power systems, but if the O-ring is not designed and used properly, it can easily cause seal failure.
