Stainless steel composition process-Corrosion

Stainless steel composition process-Corrosion: Corrosion depends on various factors, therefore, corrosion resistance information only has warning values and applies to general information. It is supposed to facilitate the selection of stainless steel, but is not guaranteed as it is not easily applicable to practical operating conditions. For example, increased temperature and concentration, as well as increased mechanical stress and damage to surfaces, can accelerate corrosion. Moreover, the lack of oxygen prevents regeneration of chromic oxide passivation layer, thus lacking corrosion protection. In addition, the presence of impurities can also accelerate corrosion. In fact, pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion and stress crack corrosion caused by chloride ion and other halogen ions are the most common ones. As a result, the passivation layer ruptures locally, and local corrosion continues. Thin-walled parts, such as metal bellows, are particularly vulnerable to this type of corrosion. If necessary, the service life should be determined by tests. In addition, the hazards of cooling water to components should not be underestimated. The surface surrounded by water must be sufficiently passivated and the cooling water must exhibit the characteristics specified by the manufacturer.
